Many innovations were built into the structure including a novel air conditioning system. The walls
were built of thick limestone in which cold water pipes were placed for stability and in order to
circulate cold water. Fans were blown over the cold water pipes and then circulated within the
building making it very cool on the hottest Summer day. Of course, that also meant that the building
was harder to warm. This was accomplished though by three massive coal burning furnaces in the
basement.
